DSL Access Services

BayArea.net provides ADSL, SDSL and IDSL broadband services available from multiple DSL carriers. This strategy provides not only a choice of service based on type and cost but also allows us to deliver DSL to nearly any location or for any application need.

BayArea.net offers two different types of DSL service based on dedicated and non-dedicated telephone lines. A non-dedicated line service is delivered over an existing or new telephone line and can support simultaneous Internet access and telephone use. Non-dedicated line services are "Rate Adaptive" DSL services where as you may experience the specified downstream and upstream minimums and maximums at any given time. A dedicated line service is delivered over a separate copper pair (not being used for telephone service) and is dedicated to Internet access service only. All DSL services will require a minimum one-year term commitment.

Service Type and Speed Details

Covad IDSL and SDSL 144 Kbps to 1.5 Mbps:

Covad (TeleSpeed) Business Class SDSL service is available in speeds ranging from 144 Kbps (kilobits per second) up to 1.5 Mbps (megabits per second). SDSL and IDSL circuits are symmetrical, meaning that download and upload throughput are equal. Since SDSL travels on copper pairs, actual speeds can vary depending many factors, including proximity to the telephone company's Central Offices (COs), line conditions or general conditions of the Internet at any given time.  Minimum line speed corresponds to the synchronization from the customer's location to the Covad network and is at least equal to 80% of the rated throughput of the service ordered. If at least 80% throughput on the selected service cannot be delivered at the customer location at time of installation, customer may downgrade to the next available service. Although Maximum Throughput numbers are listed, they are considered "up-to" or indicators of the highest bandwidth available. Covad does not make any representations, warranties, or guarantee regarding any minimum bandwidth levels.

Covad ADSL 608 Kbps / 128 Kbps, 1.5 Mbps / 128 Kbps, and 1.5 Mbps / 384 Kbps:

Covad (TeleSurfer and TeleSOHO) is a line sharing or non-dedicated ADSL service. Downstream throughput will be faster than upstream throughput. Since ADSL travels on copper pairs actual speeds can vary depending many factors including proximity to the telephone company's Central Offices (COs), line conditions, or general conditions of the Internet at any given time. Minimum supported service speed is 20% of the selected downstream and 20% of the selected upstream service speed at installation time. Customer may request a downgrade to the next available service if available throughput does not correspond with the service ordered. Although Maximum Throughput numbers are listed, they are considered "up-to" or indicators of the highest bandwidth available. Covad does not make any representations, warranties, or guarantee regarding any minimum bandwidth levels.

SBC ADSL Up to 384 Kbps / 128 - 256 Kbps:

Actual downstream and upstream throughput can vary depending on many factors including proximity to the telephone company's Central Offices (COs), line conditions or general conditions of the Internet at any given time. The maximum download throughput will be 384 Kbps (kilobits per second) with no minimum throughput on this service. Upstream throughput will be 256 Kbps maximum with 128 Kbps minimum throughput available.

SBC ADSL Up to 1.536 Mbps / 128 - 256 Kbps:

Actual downstream and upstream throughput can vary depending on many factors including proximity to the telephone company's Central Offices (COs), line conditions or general conditions of the Internet at any given time. The maximum download throughput will be 1.536 Mbps (megabits per second) with no minimum throughput on this service. Upstream throughput will be 256 Kbps maximum with 128 Kbps minimum throughput available.

SBC ADSL 384 Kbps to 1.536 Mbps / 128 - 256 Kbps:

Actual downstream and upstream throughput can vary depending on many factors including proximity to the telephone company's Central Offices (COs), line conditions or general conditions of the Internet at any given time. The maximum download throughput will be 1.536 Mbps (megabits per second) with 384 Kbps (kilobits per second) the minimum throughput on this service. Upstream throughput will be 256 Kbps maximum with 128 Kbps minimum throughput available.

SBC SDSL 384 - 416 Kbps / 384 - 416 Kbps:

Actual downstream and upstream throughput can vary depending on many factors including proximity to the telephone company's Central Offices (COs), line conditions or general conditions of the Internet at any given time.  The maximum download throughput can be 416 Kbps (kilobits per second) with at least an 80% minimum throughput available. Line speed performance corresponds to the synchronization quality from the customer's location to the SBC's Central Office (CO) network. Upstream throughput will be 416Kbps maximum with 80% minimum throughput available.

SBC ADSL 768 Kbps - 1.536 Mbps / 256 - 384 Kbps:

Actual downstream and upstream throughput can vary depending on many factors including proximity to the telephone company's Central Offices (COs), line conditions or general conditions of the Internet at any given time. The maximum download throughput can be 1.536 Mbps (megabits per second) with 768 Kbps (kilobits per second) the minimum available throughput on this service. Upstream throughput will be 384 Kbps maximum with 256 Kbps minimum throughput available. If the actual downstream throughput does not correspond with the minimum available throughput, customer may downgrade to the next available speed.

SBC ADSL 1.536 - 3 Mbps / 384 - 416 Kbps:

Actual downstream and upstream throughput can vary depending on many factors including proximity to the telephone company's Central Offices (COs), line conditions or general conditions of the Internet at any given time. The maximum download throughput can be 3008 Kbps ( 3 megabits per second) with 1.536 Mbps (megabits per second) the minimum throughput available. Upstream throughput will be 416 Kbps maximum with
384 Kbps minimum throughput available. If downstream throughput does not correspond with the minimum available throughput, customer may downgrade to the next available speed.

SBC ADSL 1.536 - 6 Mbps / 384 - 608 Kbps:

Actual downstream and upstream throughput can vary depending on many factors including proximity to the telephone company's Central Offices (COs), line conditions or general conditions of the Internet at any given time. The maximum download throughput can be 6016 Kbps ( 6 megabits per second) with 1.536 Mbps (megabits per second) the minimum throughput available. Upstream throughput will be 608 Kbps maximum with
384 Kbps minimum throughput available. If downstream throughput does not correspond with the minimum available throughput, customer may downgrade to the next available speed.

NOTE:

All SBC ADSL services above are line-shared or non-dedicated services provisioned over an existing or new phone line which MUST support SBC voice services.
