Frame
Relay Access
Frame
Relay technology provides many of the performance and
reliability characteristics of a dedicated,
point-to-point connection without the related mileage
charges and associated point-to-point circuit costs. Frame
Relay is essentially a virtual, one-to-many access
connection providing reliable data transmission rates
from 56Kbps to 1.5Mbps.

Unlike a dedicated line, which is a
physical point-to-point circuit, a Frame Relay connection is
based on a virtual circuit concept. A single Frame Relay circuit
can support multiple, logical network connections
to different locations over a single physical access circuit or
loop-back. This loop-back circuit connects your network or
computer to the local Telco Frame Relay network, which is
essentially a large data traffic switching point. From this
central switching point or cloud, as it is commonly called, many
different virtual connections can be made to geographically
dispersed sites of varying networks types and speeds.
Frame Relay is ideal for
customers with moderate data traffic that require a permanent,
reliable, and scalable connection to the Internet. A Frame Relay
connection provides a permanent "always up" connection
from your network premises through the local telephone company's
Frame Relay network to our network via any of our local
points-of-presence facilities. Frame Relay's "cloud"
topology eliminates the need for dedicated, point-to-point
lines and allows remote computers and networks to communicate
reliably and efficiently, typically at a much lower cost than a
point-to-point topology.
Frame Relay provides solid
reliability, availability, and performance and is well suited
for moderate or bursty Internet traffic demands and remote
office connectivity.
The
BayArea.net Difference:
Performance
We understand that the absolute performance of your connection
is directly affected by the quality and
speed of our network. Instead of utilizing the congested and
faulty public peering points as many providers do, we maintain
multiple direct fiber connections access points to "Tier
1" backbone providers. This is a very important
differentiation, which significantly reduces the
number of hops (routers) your network traffic must traverse
before it reaches a national or international Internet backbone.
This fundamental network strategy ensures that your connection
will always experience the clearest path possible to the
Internet.
Connectivity
Our dedicated access solutions provide very high-speed
and high-bandwidth connectivity to the global Internet network.
We maintain rigorously engineered, high-availability Network
Access Points (NAP) throughout the Bay Area. Our main facility
currently houses multiple OC48 (2.45 Gbps) fiber links to
multiple carriers. These OC48 links provide exceptional
scalability, reliability, and redundancy. This core connectivity
infrastructure enables us to maintain and quickly scale multiple
high-speed and redundant fiber links to major Tier 1 Internet
backbones, enabling us to deliver the finest Internet bandwidth
quality available.
Bandwidth
Exceptional bandwidth quality has always been a
BayArea.net core strength. A key factor that enables us to
deliver such outstanding bandwidth is a core strategy of
purchasing only "clear-channel" private Internet
connectivity. Unlike many of our competitors who rely heavily on
public network access points and congested public and private
peering points, BayArea.net's core strategy ensures that our
customers always enjoy only the best quality bandwidth through
avoidance of congested public Internet access points and
networks.
Exceptional Diversity
In addition to multiple connections to the major Tier 1
Internet backbones like Level 3 and Williams
Communications, BayArea.net also maintains fiber
connectivity to InterNAP. InterNAP
is a leading provider of fast, reliable and centrally managed
Internet connectivity services targeted at businesses seeking to
maximize the performance of mission-critical Internet-based
applications. InterNAP utilizes
a proprietary network architecture and advanced routing
technologies, which enables them to route, or transfer, data to
and from destinations, in a manner that minimizes the use of
congested public exchanges and private peering points. This
optimal routing of data traffic over the multiplicity of
networks that comprise the Internet enables higher transmission
speeds, lower instances of data packet loss and greater quality
of service.
Scalability
BayArea.net facilities are fully equipped with advanced network
infrastructure equipment, enabling the traffic and load
management required to support your high-bandwidth application
needs. Our facilities are also well provisioned with the
connectivity and dynamic bandwidth scalability needed to handle
traffic spikes and network outage issues. BayArea.net can also
easily and quickly deploy additional connectivity to enable our
customers to deploy their online business as rapidly as
possible.
Availability
BayArea.net's enterprise access services provide a
non-stop Internet access infrastructure utilizing both 480V UPS
subsystems and a fully automated fail-over to diesel-generator
backup power.

The
BAIS Advantage:
To ensure the best value and cost
effectiveness of your Internet service, Bay Area Internet
Solutions maintains relationships with several copper and fiber
local-loop facility providers. This allows us the flexibility
needed to make sure that your connection to the Internet is
accomplished in the most efficient and cost-effective manner. In
addition, we include the following value-added services with
Frame Relay offerings:
24 x 7 Network
Operations Center
Our staff of network professionals are focused on
supporting enterprise customers and can address connectivity and
network issues promptly utilizing state-of-the-art technologies,
systems, and internal processes. Our network specialists and

telephone company circuit installation, loop-back fees and
associated customer premise equipment as described below:
- A one-time
telco access facility (loop-back) and port installation
fee. The access facility connects your site to the Frame
Relay network. The port installation is the telco setup
work involved in establishing your virtual connection.
- A monthly telco
access facility "loop-back" fee associated with
connection from your site to the Frame Relay network. This
fee varies based your location and the speed of the Frame
Relay port.
- A monthly telco
port fee associated with speed of the port.
- A small monthly
telco fee associated with adding multiple connections to
your port.
- A one-time cost to
purchase a Frame Relay capable CSU/DSU (e.g.,
located at your site) required to communicate from your
site to the Frame Relay network. The cost of the DSU/CSU
can vary between $400 and $1500 depending on the connect
speed and capabilities of the unit.
- A network access
router and associated software and cabling. Access routers
vary in price depending on specific needs and related
capabilities. Costs for higher quality access routers with
associated software and cabling range in price from $800
to well over $3000.
